Twas the Night Before Christmas

This year bobcat & i hosted our 1st eva Christmas Eve party. Everyone came over for brunch at 10am for eggs, bacon, pumpkin bread, donuts, toast, juice, and fruit. The best part was greeting everyone and seeing everyones faces. It really felt like Christmas! The nieces had their mouths gaped open, fingers pointing at the tree, and bodies running into circles to see everything!! Hailey hugged and danced with the nutcracker and so Savannah wanted to as well. Hailey picked out her favorite ornaments and wanted to be lifted to the top of the tree to see every last one. She looked at the sea of presents and went in turn to each of us, first nana, than me, "kiki, which present is for hai?" "which one is mine?" aahhh!!! until nana melted and said one little present now is fine, its too long too wait until the evening. hailey opened her American girl doll Samantha and savannah opened her baby a.g.d. and the outfits nana had gotten them. sweet sounds kept coming an the house was Christmas cozy.

duma was in bliss being bobcat's baby-a natural extrovert. He loved all the attention from Kenny, Ryan, and even Hailey and Savannah! Hailey petted him and played with him and Savannah knocked him over a few hundred times with smile covered feet and even went in for her smothering hug attacks. duma the prince accepted the love graciously and jumped for safety at the nearest release. Savannah is the most lovable marshmallow princess bulldozing around with permagrin delight and a body double her older sisters size.

finally the time came for nap. hailey came to me, "kiki I'm not tired. i no need nap. i not tired." aw!! i knew exactly...she was too excited to eat all morning-just like me-! for a talbert belly, this is BIG excitement to turn down a donut in the room. Becca came and said, "hailey put on your coat it's time to go," and she explained to her, "no mom, i not tired." when mom said, "honey, we have to go home." she walked over and collapsed her body against her mom's knees, letting out the crocodile tears. it just about broke auntie's heart!!! even grandma shed a tear! we finally convinced her to take home my husky with the mission to love him and bring him back after nap to which she replied, "okay, i can do it." what a heart breaker!

while away, we prepared appetizers for the afternoon and dishes for the evening meal: prime rib, mashed potatoes, asparagus, peas, rolls, caesar salad, wine, and german chocolate cake.

then we sat down to play farmers rummy with everyone. sadly, i lost the batch and don't recall the winner.

our game ended when the girls returned play. since hailey continued where she left off asking us, "which present is for hai?" "which present has a h" "which is mine?" until nana decided maybe we should change the evening schedule to have presents before supper instead of prior. what joy this brought the sweet dumplin cakes! they eagerly found their piles and nana looked like happy and mrs. clause wrapped into one passing out piles of presents for everyone to open.

when the room was filled with wrapping paper and oohs and ahhs we prepared for dinner, finished with playing, dessert, and jeff reading everyone "Twas the night before Christmas."

Ryan stayed late with Bobby and I and we hung out and talked.
