rachel and i shared a lovely manhattan day. the night before, we caught up together on mimi's twin beds in baltimore. i went to sleep so excited to be on a sleepover again.the next morning she woke up early and barely got me out of bed. we drove to manhattan at around 8:15 and arrived parked and in the MET a little after noon. it was perfect!
at the MET, we went to the "american in paris" exhibit first, then to an egyptian exhibit of a photography documentation of an excavation of a tomb of a king. after which we both felt wretched to see an honored and carefully preserved and protected site being opened and explored for what???? mans ego i conquer achievement? seems like bad karma in the least. ancient people had such care and honor for preserving the dead and securing the afterlife and it seems beyond insensitive and anti-religious to disregard their wishes and prayers for mere scientific curiousity or as Ghandi's said in his 7 social sins, "science without humanity."
in a city rich with culture, art, and education it is invigorating & inspiring to learn the diverse ways people cultivate their God given talents. the MET was wonderful. sergent, cassat, the statue of persus holding medusa's head, and van gogh's starry night-flown in from paris-were among our faves.
we strolled through central park and walked to the belvedere look out
we reminisced over a french afternoon tea with delicious petite treats and wonderful parisan tea.
we walked around the upper east side, got a greasy slice of NY style cheese pizza...YUM!
then we had a tiffany's moment where the reverend brown got to play princess and pick out anything she wanted as a gift from her grandmom for her ordination. she selected a beautiful modest silver cross with a diamond in the center.
we shared sushi and spinach for dinner and went on a self led walking tour of the village the next day.
