no more troops

a week or two ago bush announced his plan to send over 20,000 more troops into iraq in hopes of winning the war. today, tens of thousands of diverse people set aside their plans they had for the day and made their way into d.c. to march together over the washington d.c. mall to protest the war in iraq. how beautiful to see so many people gathering to stand up for the people of iraq as well as for their fellow americans. for we are all one people in God's eye.

i live in a generation and country criticized for its peoples apathy, lack of conviction, and ignorance of international events. and yet, at brief times you can hear the people coming together, joining in unison to say, "this is what democracy looks like," to say, "we care." and i think somewhere it makes our Mother and Father take compassion on their children for trying to open their humanly tempted hearts to a vision beyond themselves, a vision not of asking God to bless america but for God to bless they world.

God i pray you give us hearts that can bear the weight of the cross we must bear. for believers to not let nationalism, political parties, or ideology become an idol for the church. for the church to be your church, to stand up an insist that we do not swear allegiance to caesar or bush or the next democratic president but to you and you alone. please let us not be a people of blind obedience to what you Jesus spoke against but let us only serve one master and tell the world that church has only one King, you the Lord, herself now and forever.
